June 21st, 2007 - Class #4 1) As a further example of Visual Thinking we watched a 60 minutes clip about math savant, Daniel Tammet, who does amazing calculations using pictures he creates in his mind. See the following links for more info: Visit http://www.optimnem.co.uk/ http://www.wisconsinmedicalsociety.org/savant/tammet.cfm read or listen to an excerpt from his autobiography : http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6860157 2)We mounted the frottage series on a specially prepared chip board matt. 3)We did a second, longer round of ink washes, using a found or self-made implement for the application of the ink. I provided ten possible titles for these paintings, as a possible way to focus the abstract imagery. 4)We watched a video on “Light + Space artist James Turrell. If you missed this video, do some internet research on his projects. Learn about his "Sky spaces" which are the inspiration for the "Night" project described below. For next week: Bring ink washes for framing. Be sure to have an xacto knife, a drafting triangle (preferably aluminum) to cut out this matt. You will also need a soft pencil. Please bring these supplies to each of the remaining classes. ESSENTIAL!!! - HAVE THE “EXPERIENCE OF THE NIGHT” AS DESCRIBED IN THE HANDOUT. THIS MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE COMING TO CLASS ON THE 28TH |
